Nickel-Safe Ice Machine Cleaner is a specially formulated food-grade product containing citric and phosphoric acid. This cleaner is approved for use in ice machines produced by Manitowoc and other manufacturers that utilize nickel components. In fact, it was the first product of its kind to be considered safe for use with nickel, and was developed in collaboration with Manitowoc.

When using this cleaner, it is important to follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding the proper dilution rate. Typically, 16 fluid ounces should be mixed with three gallons of system water for optimal results.

One of the primary issues that ice machines encounter is related to water, with lime scale being the most common problem. When water freezes in the ice maker's cycle, the minerals dissolved in the water, including those that contribute to lime scale, are left behind in the unfrozen recirculating ice water.
